There are also many other apple strudel recipes that require even more ingredients. This one, however, is a Czech classic as most of our grandmothers used to make it long ago.
Start preparing the apple strudel
If you have purchased packed puff pastrysimply take it out of the fridge and unwrap it. If the dough is in one piece, it needs to be rolled out. The thickness of the pancake should be around three millimetres. Now comes the preparation of the apple strudel mixture itself.
Take apples, which you wash thoroughly, peel and coarsely grate. Then add cinnamon, walnuts and raisins to them in a bowl. Mix everything thoroughly and start spreading on the puff pastry. Sprinkle some breadcrumbs on top of the apples and slowly roll the pancake into a rectangle or square. Place the prepared strudel on a baking tray and brush with beaten egg. The baking time of the apple strudel is around half an hour in an oven heated to 210 °C.
When the apple strudel has cooled, cut it up and start serving. It is usually sprinkled with more icing sugar to taste, which adds a touch of sweetness. Of course, you don't have to eat the strudel on its own. For example, it can be served with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
