Autonomous driving is a concept closely related to electromobility and modern means of transport. Simply put, this type of driving can be described as self-driving. This means that a special system intervenes in your driving. This is, of course, part of selected model lines and car brands.
- Autonomous driving 0 to 5
- Up to 8 million cars in operation in 2025
- Tesla is a great pioneer
At the beginning of everything is, of course. zero automation. This applies primarily to older car models where the driver is the only one who has to drive and control the car. So you cannot rely on any automation to intervene.
Different levels of management
If you come across autonomous driving, referred to as number one, you are offered basic driving assistants. An imaginary stepping stone is adaptive cruise control, which can be used to maintain a set speed while driving without your input. However, despite some of the other systems, the driver must be actively involved in driving the car.

3 | Conditional proceedings |
4 | High automation |
5 | Full automation |
As part of the partial automation of the control, you can rely on advanced driving assistantswhich are often referred to by the acronym ADAS. You can expect assistance from the system in steering, braking and acceleration.
Autonomous driving in detail
Significant technological advances occur in the transition from the second to the third level. Systems now offer more options for monitoring the environment. Even if they are not visible to the driver at first glance, they are active and assist the driver in driving. Again, however, human supervision is required. Driving without human interaction occurs at level four. Here, no driver intervention is required, but there is still some defined scope for the use of these systems.
The pinnacle of autonomous driving is level five with full control automation. In his case, human attention is no longer needed. Many experts flirt with the term cars of the future and most likely they are not too far from the truth.
